Ruralities and political transitions in Central America and Colombia

The aim of CLACSO Working Group on Ruralities and Political Transitions in Central America and Colombia It is to explore, from a multidisciplinary and multi-sited perspective, the various processes that have occurred in post-armed conflict contexts,

especially in rural areas, which have been one of the main origins of the war due to the unequal distribution of land.

This involves identifying the political moments when the peace agreements were reached and how these were inserted into the political, economic, and social context at both the local and global levels; documenting the dynamics that were put in place—or not—to achieve the reintegration and reparation of the people directly and indirectly affected; analyzing the evolution of these processes, the changes they produced at the level of territorial, social, and institutional restructuring, especially those caused by the distribution or lack thereof of land, agrarian regularization, and other legal mechanisms agreed upon and implemented or not.

These elements form the basis for observing and analyzing how the political transition processes in Central America and Colombia have unfolded, attempting to determine the typologies and orientations of these processes.

From a methodological point of view, the aim is to bring the past and the present into dialogue, to use comparative analysis as a tool to study and understand the multiple ruralities of Central America and Colombia involved in war and peacebuilding, and to promote exchanges not only between researchers but also with social actors involved in the transformation processes in Central America and Colombia.
