Results of the Call for Essays "50 Years After the Civic-Military Coup in Argentina"
The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) announces the results of the Call for Essays "50 years after the civic-military coup in Argentina", promoted together with the CLACSO Member Centers of Argentina and the National Interuniversity Council (CIN), with the support of the National University of Rosario (UNR), the Metropolitan University for Education and Work (UMET), the National University of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands (UNTDF), the Institute of Social Studies in Context of Inequalities of the National University of José C. Paz (IESCODE-UNPAZ), the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (FSoc, UBA), the Interdisciplinary School of Higher Social Studies of the National University of San Martín (EIDAES-UNSAM), and the Cultural Center of Cooperation (CCC).
Five decades after the 1976 coup, the event invited critical reflection on state terrorism and its legacies, at a time when Latin American and Caribbean democracies are facing a critical juncture, marked by the expansion of authoritarian discourses, the rise of the far right, and attacks on human rights policies. From this perspective, the initiative conceived of memory, truth, and justice as a contested field and the production of historical memory about state terrorism as a way to intervene in the present and project democratic futures.
The call was aimed at researchers, teachers, communicators, members of CLACSO member centers, activists and representatives of social, trade union and human rights organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as young people and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The essays could address nine core themes, explicitly bringing memory and the present situation into dialogue.
The call for submissions received 77 registration forms, of which 37 were completed as applications and evaluated. The submissions were reviewed for their formal and administrative aspects and subsequently assessed by an International Editorial Committee, which evaluated their quality and relevance. As a result of this process, 13 essays were selected to be included in a digital book published in open access by CLACSO.
