Outrage at the racial profiling suffered by Rudy Amanda Hurtado

El CLACSO Working Group: Civilizational Crisis, Reconfigurations of Racism, Afro-Latin American Social Movements expresses its strongest condemnation of the racial profiling suffered by our colleague Rudy Amanda Hurtado, director of the Observatory of Racial Discrimination and member of our Working Group, on October 10 at El Dorado International Airport, Bogotá. This incident not only violates her rights, but also demonstrates a systematic practice of institutional racism in Colombia.

Racial profiling at immigration checkpoints is an unacceptable form of discrimination that reinforces the exclusion of Afro-descendant people. We demand that Colombia's immigration authority and the National Police's Anti-Narcotics Directorate be held accountable and conduct a thorough investigation that leads to clear sanctions and structural reforms that eradicate these practices.

Furthermore, we condemn the racist attacks Rudy Amanda Hurtado has received on social media after making this situation public. These attacks are part of a broader pattern of racial violence that continues to affect those who fight for justice and equality.

From our Working Group, we urge the Colombian authorities to guarantee the human rights of Afro-descendant people and to take decisive steps to dismantle institutional racism. Reforms are urgent and necessary to ensure that racial profiling and other forms of discrimination have no place in state institutions.

We reiterate our solidarity with Rudy Amanda Hurtado and with all those who face racism in its various forms. We will continue fighting for a more equitable and racism-free society.
