We condemn the government of Javier Milei and its policies of austerity affecting people with disabilities in Argentina.
El CLACSO Working Group on Critical Disability Studies It expresses its repudiation of the statements made by the current president of Argentina, Javier Milei, who, using his social networks, endorsed and "liked" a post that used an edited image of a governor with characteristics of a person with Down syndrome to mock him.
Actions like this deeply offend the group of people with disabilities by using disability as a sign of insult or discredit, and constitute true acts of ableist violence that States have committed to eradicating.
We also express our concern for the more than two hundred workers of the National Disability Agency (ANDIS) who are being laid off, as well as the dismantling of the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI) and the austerity policies imposed on the Argentine people, which are disproportionately affecting people with disabilities.
We call upon everyone to join forces, raise our voices, and declare ourselves on alert in the face of this pressing situation.
