I condemn the acts of repression that took place in Jujuy, Argentina.
From the CLACSO Working Group on Critical Studies in Disability We express our absolute condemnation of the acts of repression carried out by Governor Gerardo Morales in the province of Jujuy, Argentina. We raise our voices against eye injuries as a form of disability and repression by the police forces, the unlawful arrests, as well as the violence and violation of rights specifically perpetrated against people with disabilities.
We stand in solidarity with the families of these individuals and demand that accessibility measures and reasonable accommodations be implemented. We demand respect for the human rights of all citizens of Jujuy and the prompt release of those detained. Forty years after the return to democracy in Argentina, this situation of state violence and police repression against healthcare and education workers, social movements, Indigenous peoples, and people with disabilities is unacceptable.
The Constitutional Reform in Jujuy is being sustained through violent and opaque processes. In this sense, we recognize that the struggles for the defense of the land and life constitute anti-ableist and anti-disabling struggles.
We demand an end to the violence and the implementation of national measures to protect lives. Never again state violence, never again cruelty against people with disabilities.
