Condemnation of the military coup attempt in the Plurinational State of Bolivia
From the regional platform of CLACSO Working Group on International Health and Health Sovereignty We are speaking out against the events that took place on June 26, 2024, where Juan José Zúñiga, former Commander General of the Army of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, led a military coup attempt, bursting into Plaza Murillo in La Paz with military tanks, threatening the Bolivian civilian population with firearms and tear gas, and violently entering the National Government Palace.
Beyond the national situational analyses, at the regional level, from our spaces of Health from the South and the Bolivia Core of the Working Group, we emphatically repudiate any use of violence and attempts at military interventions that seek to threaten democracy and the Plurinational State of Bolivia once again.
From our regional platform of health sovereignty with permanent working and study ties with Bolivian national organizations, with the SAFCI and SUS policy of the Ministry of Health of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, we reject any military attempt at a coup or any speculative threat to democracy in Bolivia.
We continue to promote the refounding and decolonization of the Latin American and Caribbean state, of our common public goods such as health systems, and we continue to bet on the deepening of our democracies in Abya Yala, which respond to the comprehensive care of health and living well in the South.
