Regionalism and regional integration
Within the framework of the XIV National Congress of Political Science “Politics in uncertainty. Global reorganizations, domestic realignments and the question of transparency”, organized by the Argentine Society of Political Analysis (SAAP) and the National University of San Martín, to be held between July 17 and 20, 2019, the third edition of the Symposium “Regionalism and regional integration: regions in uncertainty” will take place on Thursday the 18th.
The speakers will be: Gerardo Gaetano (FLACSO), Daniela Perrotta (UBA-CONICET), Sabrina Mary (UNASUR), the Uruguayan professor Gerónimo de Sierra and Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of CLACSO.
The symposium aims to create a space for exchange, reflection and debate among researchers who address, from different disciplines and thematic agendas, processes of regional integration and/or regionalism, marking a line of continuity with the work carried out in the other two editions of the symposium.

As part of the Symposium, there will be a recognition of Gerónimo de Sierra for his career in research on regional integration. De Sierra is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, an Emeritus Active Researcher Level 3 of the National System of Researchers, an Emeritus Member of the Uruguayan Academy of Sciences, former President of ALAS (Latin American Sociological Association), former Director of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), and former Vice Rector of the University for Latin American Integration (UNILA).

The XIV National Congress of Political Science, “Politics in Uncertainty: Global Reorderings, Domestic Realignments, and the Question of Transparency,” seeks to reflect on the global reorderings and domestic realignments that affect regional development. “This context of uncertainty,” the organizers maintain, “leads us to reflect on the field of regional integration studies, since the available theories and approaches fail to account for the complexity of the ongoing phenomena.”
The proposed thematic axes are:
What are the new challenges for regionalism in the face of the anti-globalist turn in different regions?
How do ideational factors influence regional configuration and changing domestic contexts?
How do new geopolitical dynamics affect regionalism?
What are the theoretical challenges to achieving regional integration?
How do we produce knowledge to think (about ourselves) regionally?
