Political regimes and democratization

The Working Group on Political Regimes and Democratization seeks to contribute to the construction of an emancipatory proposal for democracy, taking into account contemporary regional conditions. The current context of multiple crises in Latin America demands the development of rigorous and innovative historical and comparative studies to explain and understand the sociopolitical processes unfolding in the region, focusing on democratization, de-democratization, and existing forms of government. To this end, the Working Group fosters a dialogue between political theory, sociology, political science, and history, seeking to identify periods, political regimes, and subjects of democracy in the region. It aims to establish the relationships between these elements, paying particular attention to those included and excluded (social classes, ethnic-racial groups, gender identities) from the political regime in order to further clarify their interests and identities. The Working Group also promotes knowledge exchanges and the collective construction of democratization proposals with representatives of non-governmental organizations, public policy think tanks , representatives of political parties, citizens' organizations and social movements.
