Recognition of the Argentine teacher Ana Barletta

Ana BarlettaA professor and former dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences at the National University of La Plata, and a member of the CLACSO Network, was honored by the La Plata City Council for her work in human rights. The recognition took place during a special session held at the former Fifth Police Station, which functioned as a clandestine detention center during the last military dictatorship (1976-1983) and is now a memorial site.

Other prominent figures present included Fabián Omar Salvioli, former president of the UN Human Rights Committee; Judge Juan María Ramos Padilla; Alejandro Incháurregui, an expert in human rights cases; and Ramón Inama, a member of HIJOS La Plata, among others. With this recognition, Ana Barletta joins the list of individuals whose work has contributed to memory, truth, and justice in Argentina during a time of denialism emanating from the highest levels of the national government.

During the ceremony, the president of the Deliberative Council, Marcelo Galland, highlighted that "La Plata was a city severely punished by the genocide perpetrated by the civic-military dictatorship of '76, but it is also the cradle of important achievements in the field of Human Rights."

Between 2012 and 2015, Ana Barletta She was a member of the Steering Committee of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, representing the member centers in Argentina. Furthermore, at the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences, held in Mexico City in June 2022, she was awarded the Latin American and Caribbean Prize for Social Sciences “for her outstanding academic career and her contributions to research and development in the social sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
