We demand Lula's freedom and justice for Marielle
El Thursday April 25CLACSO will be at the forefront to demand, once again, the immediate release of the former president of Brazil. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and justice for Marielle Franco, the feminist and political activist murdered on March 14, 2018.
The call is at 6:00 PM at Avenida Santa Fe 4389, in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, a public event that will be attended by the former President Dilma Rousseff, who will be surrounded by social, academic, trade union, human rights organizations, artists and political leaders from different sectors.

This campaign, which raises the banners of Lula's liberation and the memory and example of Marielle Franco, is framed within the formation in Argentina – as in other countries – of a CommitteeFree Lula and Justice for Marielle”, of which the Latin American Council of Social Sciences is a founding member.
We invite you to visit the page www.lulalibre.org already adhere to the “Argentine Committee for Lula's Freedom and Justice for Marielle"which, in its declaration of principles, denounces the persecution of those who embody the struggles for social and political change in Latin America, including Brazilian leaders.
“The parliamentary coup against Dilma Rousseff, which established a state of emergency still in effect, was accompanied by the conviction of an innocent woman to impose her electoral ban and deepen the democratic crisis. The unjust imprisonment of Lula, through the manipulation of the justice system, confirmed by the appointment of Judge Sergio Moro as Minister of Justice under Jair Bolsonaro, exposed the farce. Political violence is another element that weakens the reality of our sister country. The still unpunished assassination of social and political leader Marielle Franco is an affront that should shame us all.”
The appeal ends with a strong commitment: “As Latin Americans, we are united in the defense of true democracy on our continent. To that end, it is imperative to affirm 'Free Lula' and 'Justice for Marielle'.”
