Rejection of the institutional breakdown in Peru

El CLACSO Working Group Crisis and World Economy We reject the institutional breakdown in Peru. Following a new impeachment request against President Pedro Castillo, the Peruvian Congress has removed him from office, deepening the institutional crisis rooted in the 1993 Constitution and its subsequent amendments. Since the beginning of President Pedro Castillo's democratically elected term, Congress has maintained hostility toward a process of change that enjoyed the support of the Peruvian people and has opposed the constitutional process because it threatens the interests of powerful economic and political groups. We reject the interference of the OAS, which accepts this anti-democratic coup, and the intervention of US imperialism. We call upon social and popular organizations throughout Latin America to reject this coup and to stand in solidarity with the Peruvian people.
