Rejection of the attempted coup in Brazil

The events in Brazil confirm the continued relevance and intensification of the actions of conservative and neoconservative sectors that threaten democratically elected governments. At the same time, they reiterate the need to remain vigilant, denouncing and condemning their violent methods and practices in the face of the progressivism that is gaining ground in Latin America and the Caribbean.

From our position as CLACSO Working Group on anti-patriarchal struggles, families, genders, diversities and citizenship We reaffirm our commitment to raising awareness and contributing to the understanding of the new ways in which these attacks are manifesting themselves. This time, the aim is to undermine democracy and a newly elected government whose platform and intention is to (re)build stability and conditions of well-being for the majority of Brazilian families.

We stand for institutional integrity and support from across Latin America at this time. For an organization that, from a collective standpoint, builds actions to defend our shared life, our future. It is essential to recognize that this conservative wave from these groups is coming for the popular majorities, for natural resources, for the achievements of feminist, grassroots, and Indigenous movements; they are coming for everything and everyone who speaks out from a disruptive, different, and dissenting perspective.
