Racism and higher education in Indo-Afro-Latin America
Even today, racist practices exist in higher education institutions that must be made visible, named, and acknowledged. The chapters in this collective volume, a product of the alliance between CLACSO and the National Pedagogical University (Mexico), reflect the work that has been carried out for decades in higher education institutions, alongside individuals and groups from diverse Indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, from various disciplines and perspectives—Indigenous and intercultural education, critical pedagogy, and intersections with the archives of colonial histories. Naming and denouncing the existence of racism aims to counteract some of its effects by bolstering the agency and empowerment of racialized individuals and communities, and, above all, to raise awareness within academia and mobilize it to promote new institutional practices that move toward anti-racism.
