While the debate on pension reform is ongoing in Argentina, the pandemic has highlighted the importance of non-contributory social protection and the necessary coverage mechanisms provided by the state. In this context, it is valid to ask how
has permeated the context of the health and economic crisis of COVID-19
Argentine pension debate.
The discussion surrounding the Argentine retirement and pension system has several facets, which are explored throughout this work. On the one hand, the debate on the nature of the system is ongoing. On the other, there is the issue of financing and the contributory nature of access to social security. Thirdly, a discussion has begun to emerge regarding the distributive logic and the reproduction of inequalities that exist in the labor market.
Asking ourselves about the transformation needs of the pension system involves a huge diversity of topics and perspectives that were shared at the fourth meeting of the cycle “Conversations on Social Security and Pension Systems” held on the 14th
September 2020. The following people discussed the topic: Fernanda Vallejos, Miguel Fernández
Pastor, Claudia Danani and Elsa Rodríguez Romero, in a multiplicity
perspectives that contribute to addressing the problem of the future
pension reform.
