Stop the persecution of Professor Miguel Ángel Beltrán and Professor Natalia Caruso

From the CLACSO Working Group: The State as a ContradictionWe reject the actions of systematic persecution towards Professor Miguel Ángel Beltrán and our GT colleague Natalia Caruso, both of Colombian origin.

Miguel Ángel, a professor at the National University of Colombia, and Natalia, a professor at the National Pedagogical University, have distinguished themselves through their critical academic careers, addressing the most pressing issues facing Colombia and Latin America. The family was on a vacation with their minor children when they were detained at the Lima, Peru airport on Friday, July 5.

According to the authorities of that country, Professor Miguel Ángel was denied entry for reasons of national security. Such actions constitute flagrant human rights violations against an entire family and revictimize the professor, who has been the victim of judicial persecution for 15 years.

We stand in solidarity with Natalia, Miguel Ángel, and their children. We demand an end to the persecution and judicial harassment, because thinking differently is not a crime.
