Statement for an inclusive, sovereign and dignified Colombia

Statement for an inclusive, sovereign and dignified Colombia

The members of the CLACSO Working Groups of Latin America and the Caribbean.

We declare:

Our sisterhood and solidarity with the Colombian people at this crucial moment in their political history, just days away from deciding what kind of country the majority aspires to, a majority that has been excluded for centuries and that is committed to a present and future based on the rules of democracy that requires conditions for the free exercise of the vote, without distortions, media biases, or external interference.

All the Latin American and Caribbean peoples who share this dream are awaiting the electoral process in Colombia because it is not just another decision; at stake is dignity, the memory of those who have given their lives for ideals and for peace, respect for citizens, the defense of territories, resources, nature, and the lives of the communities that make up that sister country.

We condemn the messages of hate, the threats and the actions that seek, as has been happening in other countries in the region, to subject the destiny and lives of millions of people to decisions based on imperial arrogance and the abuse of power.

We join the call of individuals, organizations, academic entities and institutions for the right of Colombians to build their own history to prevail.
