Statement: No to war!

 Statement: No to war!

As Latin American feminists, researchers who are members of CLACSO Working Group on Feminisms, Resistance and EmancipationWe express our rejection of the invasion/war in Ukraine, whatever its classification and motivations, just as we condemn all wars, declared or undeclared, anywhere on our planet.

Our commitment as feminists is to peace and life.

War is nothing but death and violence, poverty and pain, destruction and tears. War exacerbates inequality for women, rolls back rights, and brings sexual violence. War steals the future of girls, boys, and young people. Those who are on the front lines die, as do those who can only hide and flee. The fertility of the fields vanishes, and cities are reduced to rubble. Hunger, cold, caravans of fleeing people, overcrowded shelters, and separations paint the daily reality of war. In communities and towns, debilitating injuries accumulate, barely treatable; hospitals are besieged; and schools are destroyed.

Human resources and energy are concentrated on weapons and death. War, in short, is the paroxysm of blind and destructive patriarchy.

Our cry is for peace, for dialogue and for an end to the fighting.

We call on world and regional leaders to act responsibly for the lives of suffering people. No more death, for life and with life!
