Statement against the manipulation campaign against Cuba

The Steering Committee and the Cuban Centers that are members of CLACSO reject the attempts at destabilization being promoted against the Cuban social project, taking advantage of the complex situation the country is experiencing due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the circulation of more contagious strains and the worsening economic situation, conditioned by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States, which has recently received the majority condemnation of the international community at the United Nations.

Those who seek to end the Cuban project, as part of a broader escalation against leftist forces in Latin America and the Caribbean, see in these difficult times an opportunity to stir up popular discontent and impose a narrative against the Cuban government on international public opinion, in order to demand a humanitarian intervention that justifies foreign interference in the nation's internal affairs.

They believe that after tightening the blockade measures to the maximum to achieve economic strangulation, the Cuban Revolution is now ripe and ripe for the taking. To this end, they do not hesitate to encourage and finance acts of vandalism and terrorism, incite public discontent over food and medicine shortages, and manipulate international public opinion with blatant fake news.

Those who call for humanitarian intervention are the same ones who support the blockade. Those who cry out about the shortage of medicines during a pandemic peak don't say a word about the production of Cuban vaccines, with which a third of the population has already been vaccinated. The intention is not the well-being of the Cuban people, but rather to discredit their social project in order to justify its destruction.

We call upon the academic community and all progressive forces committed to the true defense of human rights and the right of peoples to self-determination, to condemn the manipulative maneuvers against Cuba and demand the lifting of the blockade, as the main obstacle to development and to the improvement of the people's living conditions.
