Statement from the Steering Committee in defense of CLACSO's internal democratic process

The CLACSO Steering Committee deeply regrets the tarnishing of the election campaign for the new Executive Directorate with the use of harmful practices that seek to undermine the credibility of the process.

The use of apocryphal communications is one of the worst vices of a political culture that has done much damage in the region, since under the cover of anonymity accusations are launched and even facts are distorted with impunity.

It is important to clarify that the letter aligned with the content of the anonymous letters addressed to the Steering Committee by the representative of one of the CLACSO centers was answered unanimously, in a timely manner, by this Steering Committee with the information diligently and responsibly provided by the Executive Directorate.

The Steering Committee reiterates its guarantee that this electoral process is being conducted under the principle of transparency and that, during the Committee's last meeting, held in Havana, a series of measures were established to which all candidates have access. These measures are:

  • Virtual debates between the candidates.
  • Interviews at InfoCLACSO for each applicant.
  • Equitable access to CLACSO's virtual resources.

Likewise, all candidates have access to the contacts of the network's member centers to disseminate their programmatic agenda.

We make a clear and vehement call to all working groups, CLACSO centers, networks and people involved with the organization to defend the current democratic, open and deliberative process, and to respond with intellectual clarity, ethics and criticality to the unscrupulous acts that attempt to negatively alter the principles and objectives of CLACSO, and divert us from our commitments.
