Promoting racial equality in Latin America and the Caribbean
On Wednesday, March 13, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences signed a cooperation agreement in Brasilia to promote racial equality in Latin America and the Caribbean and to work with Africa.
They participated on behalf of CLACSO Karina BatthyányExecutive Director, and Pablo VommaroAcademic Secretary, while representing the Brazilian government was the Minister of Racial Equality (MIR) Anielle Franco; Yuri Silva, Director of Policies to Combat and Overcome Racism; Kátia Regis, General Coordinator of Racial Justice and Combate ao Racismo; and Iyaromi Ahualli, Chefe de Divisão da Coordenação de Justiça Racial e Combate ao Racismo.
The document establishes international cooperation and technical, scientific and cultural collaboration relationships, with an emphasis on combating discrimination and promoting racial equality in the Pathways of Amefricanía Program: South-South Exchange and the Amefricanities Observatory.

"We know how these initiatives make a difference in students' lives and that partnerships like the one we are forming today are essential to strengthening them," she stated.
Karina BatthyányShe, in turn, expressed her gratitude for the collaboration and emphasized how she believes CLACSO can contribute: “We have many activities related to gender and race, and we want to strengthen them. I think we will quickly have a work agenda to move forward.”

"This partnership is very important for us, given CLACSO's long history and academic standing in Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean, and therefore in the Global South, which is a clear priority for the Ministry's international cooperation," he said.
Kátia RégisThe general coordinator of Racial Justice and the Fight Against Racism, highlighted that the memorandum of understanding demonstrates that the actions of CLACSO and the MIR are aligned. “One of the central pillars of the Council’s work is precisely the fight against gender and ethnic inequalities, and they have much to contribute to the programs we have developed in South-South cooperation,” she stated.
The Memorandum of Understanding has a duration of five years and can be automatically renewed for the duration of the partnership.
