University Program of Studies on Asia and Africa – Mexico

Alicia Girón, Coordinator
The University Program of Asian and African Studies (PUEAA) was created on May 02, 2017, by agreement of the Rector, Dr. Enrique Graue, to further the study of Asia and Africa. The program's immediate antecedents are the University Seminar of Asian Studies (SUEA), which served as a leading initiative for Asian studies at the University from 2013 to 2017.
Since its creation, four fundamental axes were established through which the Program operates: teaching, research, dissemination and linkage with society to fulfill the mission of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
The PUEAA is established as a space where university authorities, teachers, researchers, academics and students come together to help raise awareness about the importance of studies on Asia and Africa from the Social Sciences and Humanities in Mexico.
The Program's continuing education academic offering consists of diplomas, courses, and seminars, designed for the training and development of individuals, both professionals and non-professionals, who seek to deepen or stay updated on knowledge about the regions of Asia and Africa, enabling them to achieve better work or professional performance.
Our diploma programs are structured in modules, allowing participants to develop skills and knowledge, as well as acquire new theoretical and practical tools to complement their professional training. Throughout the year, we offer diploma programs in Asian Studies and African Studies, both in person and online. The programs are constantly updated to reflect political and social changes in different regions and the evolving interests of the general public.
The courses and seminars are designed and structured according to the actual needs of the study areas within the region. Both in-person and online courses are offered, geared towards professionals as well as public and private organizations. The following courses are currently offered:
- Course on Philosophy and Religion of Asia: Tradition and Contemporary Representations.
- Korea Course: Challenges of Globalization.
- Course on Gender, Economics, Culture in Asia and Africa.
- Seminar-workshop India in the 21st century: economy, politics and society.
- Seminar on African Literature and Gender. An analysis of contemporary novels written by women.
- Seminar-workshop The Silk Road of the 21st Century.

With the aim of promoting the publication of books and other materials on scientific, social, cultural, and artistic topics, the University Collection of Asian Studies, the University Collection of Asian and African Studies, and the Series of Short Texts on Asia and Africa were created.
