“American Paths” Program

The American Roads Program It was instituted by the Interministerial Portaria No. 233, of July 31, 2023, and is a proposal of the Ministério da Igualdade Racial (MIR) in partnership with the Ministério da Educação (MEC), with the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) and with o Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE).
The Program aims to contribute to the fight against racism, the promotion of racial equality and the decolonization of curricula through short-term non-foreign exchanges, particularly in African, Latin American and Caribbean countries based on the production and socialization of knowledge to strengthen Initial and Continuing Training of teachers in the perspective of Law No. 10.639/2003, which is mandatory in Brazil and teaches Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture.
Exchanges that transform
Every year, only short-term exchanges (15 days) of black students or undergraduate graduates of Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (IES) and black teachers or basic education quilombolas of Brazil are carried out for exchanges in African, Latin American or Caribbean countries. In our partner countries, students, teachers and members of social movements are only considered for short-term exchanges in Brazil.

Strategic alliances for racial justice
In the scope of this multilateral cooperation, the American Roads program – developed in partnership with various government and academic institutions – carried out in 2024 exchanges in Maputo (Moçambique), Bogotá (Colômbia), São Luís (Brazil) and Praia (Cape Verde).
For 2025, new editions are planned in Lima (Peru), Luanda (Angola), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) and in São Luís (Brazil).
Nesse ano, members of CLACSO, particularly, two GTs Afrodescendências e Propostas Contra-hegemônicas e Crise civilizational, reconfiguration of racism, Afro-Latin-American social movements, will go along with the committees of two exchanges in Angola, Brazil, Peru and the Dominican Republic, strengthening the production and socialization of Afrodiasporic knowledge to overcome racism.
Second or elected Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Pablo Vommaro, “a partnership with the Ministério da Igualdade Racial (MIR), or Ministério da Educação (MEC), a Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) and Serviço Brasileiro de Support às Micro e Pequenas Empresas (SEBRAE) is a strategic commitment with the construction of a CLACSO muito more egalitarian and anti-racist, which consolidates South-Sul cooperation. As CLACSO research and training teams are available to participate in these projects.»
Future perspectives
The CLACSO and MIR continue to expand their actions in partnership, which seek to advance in areas such as social technologies and scientific sovereignty of the Global South, always with the objective of contributing to racial justice.
