For a new circulation of books in the region
Within the framework of the 9th #CLACSO2022 Conference, which will take place from June 7 to 10 at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the “Latin American and Caribbean Social Sciences Book Fair – For a new circulation of books in the regionPublishers, booksellers, distributors, literary agents, librarians, designers, translators, and all those involved in the various areas that make up the value chain of the book in Latin America and the Caribbean are invited to register, convinced that it will be the ideal occasion to showcase and make known the rich, varied, and extensive publishing production of our region in the Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as to continue strengthening ties between the different actors involved in the book ecosystem.
The 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Social Sciences is the most important event of its kind in the region. For four days, more than 8 social science professionals will gather on the UNAM campus to attend keynote addresses, forums, panels, thematic roundtables, and workshops.
In this context, the Social Sciences Book Fair is envisioned as a cultural event that will take the circulation of books in the region to a new level, as well as allowing participating publishers, collectives and institutions to position their Social Sciences and Humanities catalogs in a highly visible place, given the dimensions and characteristics of the Conference and the Fair, the diversity of the participants (55 countries from Latin America, the Caribbean and other regions of the world) and the magnitude of the attendance.
In addition to selling copies, the event will offer business opportunities for all professionals involved in the book value chain, as Professional Networking Rounds will be held – Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th from 10:00 to 12:30 – with the presence of distributors, booksellers, librarians and other interested parties, specially invited to learn about the various publishing offers and participating catalogs.
Admission to the Fair will be free and open to the public. It will run from Tuesday, June 7th to Friday, June 10th, from 10:00 AM to 20:00 PM, except for the last day when the Fair will close to the public at 13:30 PM, in a tent located on the Islands of the UNAM University City, Av. Universidad 3000, Coyoacán, Mexico City.
The schedule of activities includes a series of talks on the book ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as several book presentations. The Conference program includes 20 keynote addresses, 40 forums, 150 panels, 700 thematic roundtables, and 28 training workshops. An attendance and participation of at least 8 professionals in the social sciences is expected.
From the Book Fair tent, CLACSO.tv will broadcast continuous programming, including live streams of the keynote lectures. The Book Fair activities will also be shared on CLACSO's social media channels and through the channels of major Latin American and Caribbean universities.
