Course presentation:

What is the current geography, and what are the challenges and opportunities of education and schooling processes in the world and in Latin America?
What are the policies and indicators suggested by international and regional frameworks that define the right to education and how do they influence (or not) public policies?
The seminar is structured through twelve classes working from situated and collaborative research with planetary, Latin American and Caribbean materials.
Latin America offers examples of increased access and years of compulsory schooling, but also of unequal school trajectories and learning outcomes.
In this context, it is worth analyzing the trend towards a close relationship with the labor market and towards privatization as the "solution" to the problem of public education or as an "indispensable" complement.
It is also worth mapping the perspectives and practices of popular and intercultural education in relation to the challenges of public education, digital culture, and territorial rights.
