CLACSO Working Group on Sport, Culture and Society
In recent years, we have witnessed significant growth in various research projects within the field of Social Studies of Sport in our continent. Thanks to the personal efforts of academics such as Pablo Alabarces and Simoni Lahud Guedes, the number of publications belonging to this community has multiplied. There have also been institutional efforts by numerous universities that have hired academics and researchers and funded studies, in addition to the interest of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) in supporting this work across the continent.
Specifically, the CLACSO Working Group on “Sport, Culture and Society” has fostered connections among academics across the continent to continue the legacy of those who have paved the way for us. This book exemplifies how, collaboratively, critical research can be developed, focused on transforming the inequalities and injustices that affect society and permeate all social spheres, including sport and physical activity.
This book contains an analysis of various public sports policies in Latin America. It includes information on Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
