Educational policies and the right to education

The objectives of CLACSO Working Group on Educational Policies and the Right to Education These studies examine educational policies as a social right relevant to the transformation of individuals and the construction of more just societies, based on debates about their political, social, and educational meanings and the production of critical knowledge. We propose a broader debate between the academic and intellectual sphere and the situated knowledge production of the groups that challenge the educational system.

Thus, our purpose is to analyze the cross-cutting issues arising from the right to education, exploring its theoretical and methodological problems, as well as the possibilities for interdisciplinary interpretation in light of its pedagogical potential. In doing so, we suggest that the notion of the right to education is central to human rights theory as a fundamental condition for democratic life, linked to the exercise of other rights and the promotion of public policies built from the ground up.
With a focus on critical Latin American thought, we are organized around five areas of work: 1) social inequalities and educational policies; 2) privatization and commodification of education; 3) labor and
teacher training; 4) right to education, theoretical and political aspects; 5) policies and rights in higher education.
