Care policies

Author: Karina Batthyány.

Karina Batthyány presents us with a simple idea that nonetheless implies a steadily advancing cultural transformation: the importance of unpaid work within the home and the status of women as workers performing these tasks, which carry a historical stigma of devaluation and normalization. The coronavirus pandemic highlighted its fundamental value for the functioning of society and the economy. To analyze equality and the exercise of rights within the home, Batthyány proposes that we examine the concept of gender, the sexual division of labor, and the role of unpaid work in capitalist societies, with the aim of working together toward resolving a care crisis that affects society as a whole.
