Care policies with a gender perspective

Care policies with a gender perspective

In September, the virtual course on "Care Policies with a Gender Perspective" will begin, and registration closes on September 13th of this year.

The call, which has the support of ECLAC, understands that the changes experienced in recent years in Latin American societies regarding female participation in the labor market, the aging process and family transformations, invite reflection on the social organization of care in changing contexts.

Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of CLACSO and member of the University of the Republic of Uruguay, who will coordinate the international course and specialization together with Joan Tronto of the North American University of Minnesota, invited people to register through CLACSO TV and provided more details in an interview with CLACSO Radio.

The international course and specialization will run from September 2019 to August 2020 and will be academically coordinated by Natalia Genta of the University of the Republic of Uruguay. It is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students; teachers at all levels; activists and members of labor unions, social movements, and political parties; public officials; media workers; members and managers of non-governmental organizations; and professionals interested in the study and implementation of care policies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The objective of the specialization is to:

  • To provide theoretical tools that allow for solid training in the relationship between gender and care, and its main debates and conceptual tensions.
  • To provide knowledge about the advances in empirical research carried out in the region and its main contributions
  • To train students in the design and analysis of public policies so that they are able to make contributions that allow the incorporation of a gender perspective into the issue of care.
