CLACSO Working Group on Childhood and Youth
This book brings together experiences from different parts of the world, appealing to diverse perspectives and addressing a wide range of themes, yet it can be read through a common lens: a collection of works concerned with understanding the multifaceted nature of contemporary youth. In this way, it provides an overview for understanding different processes and the place of young people within them, exploring both the role of the state in shaping the concept of youth through public policies, and the political practices intertwined within groups and movements with specific representations of youth, often in conflict with young people themselves. The works thus reveal both the multiple ways in which young people are addressed and the diverse practices of youth, exploring the complex interplay between the design and implementation of public policies, the frameworks proposed by educational institutions, political parties, and social movements, and the margins of youth activism. We hope that readers will find in this collection of research new insights for thinking about both long-standing problems and the emerging cultural challenges and transformations led by new generations.
