Care policies in Venezuela: Who cares for the caregivers? Policies, actors, and challenges

This publication, edited by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and authored by Alba Carosio, a researcher at CLACSO Working Group on Feminisms, Resistance and Emancipation The aim is to provide empirical evidence on the current state of care policies in the region and in particular in each of the countries, in order to propose ways of implementing alternative public policies.

This study describes and analyzes legal norms regarding care, social and labor protection policies from a care perspective, care services and relevant infrastructure, as well as how care is distributed (actors involved, gender inequalities, time allocation, satellite accounts if any, etc.) and the current state of the debate on this issue, considering both institutional and non-institutional actors. Through this study and analysis of the care situation in Venezuela, the author aims to provide relevant information on the current social organization of care, thereby informing and strengthening political reflections and proposals. A baseline diagnosis is presented to enrich the course of action and advocacy of organized women's movements.
