Milei's rise to the presidency marked a break with the government's policies, which were based on ultraliberal economic principles and a regressive approach to rights. Popular organizations and feminist movements became targets of attack.
In response, community-based social workers became more organized and reinvented forms of protest to sustain their demands. In this episode, we share these stories of struggle and resistance to uphold life and advance the gender agenda of the informal economy.
This podcast reflects on the value of women's work, their distinctive features, knowledge, and the collective networks that resist invisibility and exclusion from spaces of power.
It originated from research projects developed within the framework of the National Scientific System; from different Public Universities of Argentina (UBA, UNPAZ and UNMDP) and the Floreal Gorini Cultural Center of Cooperation.

In recent years, several bills have been introduced to regulate community service, aiming to recognize it and provide resources and protections to those who carry it out. While none have been passed, the experience has allowed for the consolidation of networks, the expansion of demands, and the discussion of gender roles and stereotypes that contribute to the (re)production of inequalities.
Marina Joski, Celeste Ortiz, and Norma Morales share their experience of one of these projects presented by UTEP in the second episode of the podcast “Women in the lead":"The denied salary. Bills to regulate socio-community work".
Episode 1: “It's love and it's work: what socio-community work is and how it's organized"
Community-based social work encompasses a wide range of activities that ensure the continuation of life in the most marginalized areas. However, these tasks are not recognized as work, nor do they receive remuneration or social protections. The creation of a union branch for these workers within the UTEP (Union of Workers of the Popular Economy) paved the way for them to fight for rights and resources. To explore this topic further, we spoke with leaders from that organization.
