Condolences for the death of Marianela Denegri Coria

With great sorrow, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences announces the passing of the distinguished Chilean psychologist, academic and researcher at the University of La Frontera Marianela Denegri Coria, member of our Steering Committee elected at the XXVII CLACSO Assembly on June 6, 2022 in Mexico City.

Those of us who knew her remember Marianela as a determined woman who specialized in the field of Economic Psychology, becoming the first Latin American researcher to conduct research in this area. Also noteworthy is her role as manager and director of the Scientific and Technological Center for Social Sciences and Humanities in Chile, an organization dedicated to strengthening the Social Sciences and Humanities as a strategic pillar of development.

Throughout her extensive career, she also served as director of the Center of Excellence in Economic and Consumer Psychology (CEPEC) at UFRO, was recognized as one of the 100 leading women of La Araucanía, and served as an advisor to various public organizations such as the National Consumer Service, Ministry of Social Development, Superintendency of Banks and Financial Institutions, EDUCAR Chile, Banco Estado and the PUC Center for Public Policy in matters of financial education and mental health. She was also the National Vice President of the College of Psychologists of Chile, a member of the Network of Researchers of Chile, and a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Interamerican Society of Psychology.

She has directed more than one hundred research projects and is the author and co-author of more than 150 articles, book chapters and academic books.

His departure leaves a void impossible to fill, but we are committed to carrying on his strength, dedication, and legacy in all actions undertaken to achieve a Latin American and Caribbean region with greater equality, fraternity, and democracy.
