Peru: No more deaths!

The Peruvian centers that are members of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences express our dismay at the violent turn the political situation has taken, which has so far resulted in 19 deaths. We believe that the state of emergency must be lifted, a national dialogue established to lead to early elections as soon as possible, and thorough investigations carried out to determine responsibility for the acts of violence that have occurred, especially those resulting from the actions of law enforcement.

Likewise, we call for the scrupulous respect of the rights of the detained persons and their immediate placement at the disposal of the corresponding judicial authority.
