Latin American thought and social theory and university internationalization
The CLACSO Working Group Latin American thought and social theory and university internationalization It aims to recover and renew the great critical and emancipatory traditions of Latin American thought in order to actively intervene in public debate and in the formulation of regional integration policies.
To this end, the Working Group focuses on three objectives. First, to develop a transdisciplinary space for research, teaching, and dissemination that recovers the contributions of major authors from the region. Second, to reflect on the conditions for a situated humanism that, grounded in the specific national circumstances of our countries, incorporates the major bodies of thought of Latin American humanism and contributes to understanding the common challenges of our time. Third, to critically review university internationalization policies to promote a shift from the dominant colonial paradigm of internationalization toward a Latin Americanist, solidarity-based, and horizontal one.
These objectives are organized into three articulated levels of work: a more general one, dedicated to the study of Latin American thought and social theory as a whole; a more particular one, focused on the ways in which that thought has dealt with the university question; and a more specific one, oriented to the analysis of the forms of internationalization of our universities and national university systems, approached not from a technical but a political perspective, in line with the other two levels of reflection, and with the horizon set on greater regional university integration.
