Participation in the event «Lecture Decolonizing third space between East and West»

On July 4th, Karina Bidaseca, co-coordinator of the CLACSO Working Group on Epistemologies of the South, was part of the Conference «Lecture Decolonizing third space between East and West» conducted at the University of Freiburg.

During this meeting, Bidaseca introduced the notion of 'Third Space,' which she conceives as a meeting place for artists situated in the different contexts of enunciation commonly understood as the Global South. Furthermore, the activity was based on synecdoche as a means of reclaiming a narrative memory for the Palestinian, Vietnamese, and Afro-Indigenous experiences that the researcher recognizes as distinct forms of expression of the political subject. 

The talk was organized around a captivating question: if the skin of recolonized and feminized bodies is written by the scripts of global fundamentalisms (religious, political, cultural, economic), in what way do artists who produce works from the South – Grada Kilomba (Portugal), Ana Mendieta (Cuba), Sigalit Landau (Israel), Emily Jacir (Palestine) – How do we write (and dispute) according to the processes of occupation/colonization/decolonization of our bodies? How are these processes based on a re-semanticization of contemporary signs of feminist agency?
