CLACSO Working Group Social Studies for Health

This book is dedicated to reflecting, from different perspectives, on the challenges posed by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic in our countries during its second year. Laden with structural inequalities, struggles, and contradictions of all kinds, especially those related to class, gender, and ethnicity, among others, the pandemic and its aftermath, which is emerging after almost two years, reveal that systemic poverty has deepened as a way of life for large sectors of our populations. It has also generated political rebellions and uprisings as expressions of the exhaustion of capitalism, and especially of the economic and political model that has been implementing neoliberal policies for 40 years. Furthermore, it has exposed the weakness of healthcare systems and their dependence on science and technology to confront the pandemic, which has overwhelmed them with serious consequences for the poor, particularly the poor, and for healthcare workers. In addition, it is worth highlighting the deepening inequality expressed in a greater concentration of income, a product of the prolific development of the private industry of supplies, medicines, and vaccines, which has created a new center of accumulation.
