New rights: Care infrastructure in Argentina and Latin America

On Tuesday, October 10, at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, in Argentina, the book “New rights: Care infrastructure in Argentina and Latin America”, compiled by Roxana Mazzola from FLACSO Argentina, who was accompanied by the Executive Director of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, Javier Curcio (Director of the Department of Economics FCE-UBA) and Gabriel Katopodis, Minister of Public Works of the Argentine Nation.

What innovative responses can our states offer for building societies that promote equitable, sustainable, and democratic economic growth? How can we multiply the impact of public investments? How can we build caring societies? Who should be invited to participate in renewed and transformative political processes?

The electoral debates in our countries say little about development models and equity, reducing proposals to the resolution of short-term problems. This book argues that Latin American countries, and Argentina in particular, must advance a new right: the infrastructure of care, to address structural and multiple inequalities related to gender, age, and territory.

The work proposes answers to old – and renewed – questions to address child poverty, gender gaps and equity, as well as underscores the importance of the participation of our communities as protagonists of sustainable economic development.
