“We are facing the cracks in globalization, the increase in inequality, the destruction of the planet.”
The Colombian anthropologist from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Arturo Escobar, participated in the InfoCLACSO on April 13, covering current topics and delving deeper into the themes of the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences #CLACSO2022 to be held from June 7 to 10 at UNAM in Mexico.

For Escobar, “the pandemic generated an imbalance between the cultural system, capitalism and the functional narratives of life… and teaches us that returning to normal is a problem.”
He analyzed that “we are facing the cracks of globalization, the increase in inequality and the destruction of the planet” and that “we have three dimensions of emergency in Latin America: social, ecological and epistemic.”
She also considered that “there are three areas of critical thinking in social activism: feminism, environmentalism, and ethnic groups” and that “we must feminize politics in the (re)construction of new worlds.”
“Today, the progressive movements of the new generations must learn to question the extractive economic development model, the economy of good living, and the patriarchal issue,” said Arturo Escobar, for whom in his country, Colombia, “there is a right wing that is willing to do anything: in inequality and the use of violence.”
He emphasized that "the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a confrontation between empires, the balance of power in geopolitics and Western civilization."
