For centuries, the memento mori has haunted public and private debates. Men and women survived, gloomy, enraged, confined to the threshold of death. The French Revolution taught them that another world was possible. Since then, we know that the vast field of the heart's desires has opened before us. The dream of a true life has begun to uncover nascent territories. Poetry made by everyone is a path that opens in the present.
Conversely, at the same time that the will for emancipation flourishes, the rabid shocks of conservatism—right and left confused—strike us full force. We must understand the extent to which we lack the audacity to prioritize our desires over the dictatorship of power and profit. Will we have to die from not truly living before we realize that those who manage our lives are corrupting them?
