Multiple CLACSO activities in Colombia
From July 6 to 9, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences organized a series of meetings, forums, meetings of Member Centers and Working Groups, in two cities in Colombia: Medellín and Bogotá.
Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of CLACSO, gave an assessment for CLACSO Radio highlighting “the high level of participation” of members of the Centers who discussed “how to densify the CLACSO network around the research proposals of the Working Groups, the training proposals and the process of updating the Statute” which, it was resolved, will be the subject of an Extraordinary Assembly in Bogotá, in August 2020.
Carolina Jiménez, a member of the CLACSO Steering Committee representing Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela, agreed with “the very positive assessment” and highlighted the work plans proposed by the Centers “regarding the strengthening of education, the measurement of the impact of social sciences on the transformation of social and community realities, and the issue of peace” in Colombia.
Finally, Pablo Vommaro, Director of Research and Working Groups at CLACSO, emphasized “the great interest of Colombian centers and researchers in participating in the new call for Working Groups” and in getting involved in CLACSO’s debates on the region “related to the peace process, conflicts, migration, the environment, gender, and youth.”
The multiple activities included a meeting in Medellín of Member Centers and Working Groups from the Northeast, Antioquia and Coffee Regions; and another in the Colombian capital for the Central, Bogotá and Southwest regions of the country, where proposals and initiatives were discussed and the new Call for Working Groups for the period 2019 – 2022 was addressed.
On Monday the 8th, in the Colombian capital, the meeting “Social Sciences, Scientific Publications and Knowledge Policies” took place, and the following day, the forum “The Crossroads of Peace in Colombia”.
During her stay, Karina Batthyány signed a cooperation agreement with Colombia's "Truth Commission" to work on disabilities within the framework of the peace process and, together with CLACSO Directors, met with representatives of Colciencias, the Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation of Colombia, with whom they agreed to work on evaluation, internationalization, peace and post-agreement with perspectives from Colombia and Latin America.
