The women's and feminist movement in Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the most critical and alternative expressions against patriarchy and racially structured capitalism.
In recent years, much progress has been made in terms of rights and visibility.
We conquered the streets and denounced the systematic violence perpetrated against women, girls, and dissidents.
However, much remains to be done. Neoliberal policies are feminizing poverty, and religious fundamentalisms are perpetrating violence against, oppressing, and persecuting women and gender dissidents. Inequalities persist in all spheres of public and private life.
We continue to be paid less for the same work, we rarely have access to managerial positions, caregiving tasks are considered a gender duty, and we continue to be stigmatized for our bodies and our choices.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, more than nine women are victims of femicide every day; indigenous, social, and environmental leaders are violated and murdered.
Each year, two million children are born to mothers aged between 15 and 19; 760.000 women receive treatment for complications from unsafe abortions, and many of them die, representing the second leading cause of maternal mortality.
We face numerous challenges: Patriarchy oppresses everyone, therefore we must join forces and move forward in consolidating an increasingly just society, building a popular and Latin American, mixed and dissident feminism.
