Course presentation:
The virtual seminar emerged as part of the CLACSO Working Group “Youth, Childhood: Policies, Cultures, and Social Institutions.” This group comprises 94 researchers from 14 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Working Group currently operates along four lines of research, one of which addresses the processes and experiences of youth participation and collective action in different countries, periods, and sociopolitical contexts.
Based on a theoretical-conceptual approach to various perspectives and approaches, the aim is to contribute to the problematization and analysis of a set of forms of social and political mobilization carried out by groups, organizations and movements and actions whose effects on social practices and structures vary.
To that end, the proposed course is organized into 12 classes. The first five are dedicated to examining different theoretical developments within the vast conceptual field of participation, activism, militancy, and collective action. Subsequent classes are devoted to the analysis of a series of paradigmatic cases in which mobilizations have demonstrated both new and old demands through varied repertoires of collective action in distinct and specific sociopolitical contexts.
