“Milei has a project to destroy the Argentine state and society.”

Within the framework of the Plenary Meeting of Deans of Faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities of Argentina of CODESOC, at the end of May 2024, Atilio BoronArgentine sociologist and political scientist, former Executive Secretary of CLACSO, spoke with CLACSO.tv.

Regarding the situation in his country, he asserted that “Milei has put esotericism at the service of a project of destruction, not only of the State, because that is the most visible aspect, but of Argentine society.” He explained: “Liberalism, in general, conceives of society as a sum of individuals. The idea of ​​a national spirit, a national culture, a national history, is foreign to the liberal tradition. And in Milei's case, it's a kind of hyperbole. Undoubtedly, he is not concerned about what happens to the Argentine Nation, because he doesn't believe it exists. This, then, leads him to adopt policies that are tremendously damaging to Argentine society.”

Framing this phenomenon in the global context, Borón added: “Politics, and even more so in the current era, has reached such a level of intensity in confrontation and fighting that economic and social inequality has reached absolutely unprecedented extremes.”
