As part of Women's Month, CLACSO is organizing an in-person meeting to discuss Gender and Public Policy: Rights in Tension? with a roundtable discussion featuring: Karina Batthyány (Executive Director of CLACSO), Estela Díaz (Minister of Women, Gender Policies and Sexual Diversity of the province of Buenos Aires) and Veronica Gago (National University of San Martín, professor and researcher at CLACSO) and a training workshop coordinated by Andrea Daverio y Elena Mingo (CLACSO Working Group on Gender, (In)equalities and Rights in Tension)
This proposal contributes to the debates and exchanges of the Platform for Social Dialogue: Rights, violence and gender equality.

Foundation: The social, political, and economic context of this March 8th in Argentina, marked by the rise of the new government, demands a feminist analysis of the emerging direction regarding the role of the State, political institutions, and public policies in regulating and transforming gender relations. To this end, it is essential to share conceptual and political tools to strengthen public debate and build collective strategies to confront government actions that seek to curtail rights won by women and diverse groups over the past decades.
The rights of women and diverse groups are part of the political negotiation with which the new government seeks to settle debts with the right-wing sectors that lent them political and economic support, but also to reinstate a socio-productive order in which gender hierarchies once again become a constitutive part of the disciplinary matrix through which the distribution of income, resources and social recognition is organized, which will deepen the impoverishment of women and diverse groups.
In this context, the objective of this workshop is to reflect on the conditions of possibility and feasibility of defending rights and their effective exercise, based on gender equality, in a context that includes the dehierarchization of gender institutions and the uncertainty about the continuity of public policies in progress on the subject, based on the demands of feminist movements and on normative advances in the matter.
