Transformed Matter: Theoretical Notes and Case Studies on Landscapes in Costa Rica
This book brings together Allen Cordero Ulate's landscape studies. It compiles both theoretically focused texts from a critical ecology perspective and applied research through the analysis of life stories from fishermen and Indigenous communities in Costa Rica. Throughout the book, the author addresses the relative contradiction between landscape beauty and the social need to understand its sociocultural and political mediations. His aim is to better understand landscapes in order to recognize their inherent limitations and acquire better tools to fight for their transformation, confronting the destruction of nature, climate change, and the usurpation of Indigenous territories, among other problems.
