CLACSO Working Group on Communication, Cultures and Politics
One of the main concerns of the CLACSO Working Group on Communication, Cultures, and Politics is the democratic crises and their correlation with growing authoritarianism in communication, the erosion of the rule of law, the rise of ultraconservative groups, and polarizing political trends. We invited participants from the Working Group who wished to contribute to the book. The aim was to move beyond diagnostic approaches and contribute—from a critical, creative, and bold perspective—to the communication sovereignty of our peoples, by debating the aspects and variables we use to analyze communication, culture, and politics. We told them that their contributions could be essays or research findings that emphasized their local context and political culture, focusing on the role of communication and moving from simply diagnosing what is already known to analyzing and proposing ways to make communication a democratic force.
