Marielle Franco: A voice that can never be silenced

Feminist, activist, lesbian, and Black woman from the favela. Marielle Franco left a legacy of resistance that multiplied in every corner, hallway, and street of Brazil: she was a combative councilwoman for the Socialism and Liberty Party.

Murderous hands and the institutional violence of the State extinguished his life with four gunshots on March 14, 2018, along with his driver Anderson Gomes. A double political assassination that shocked the entire Brazilian nation and made headlines around the world.

One year after her physical departure, the body of Marielle Franco is more alive than ever in every demonstration, educational classroom, university and conference for Human Rights, in the struggles for the rights of blacks, women and the LGBT community that she knew how to lead, to shout "Murderous police, they will not silence us."

From CLACSO, we commemorate and uphold the struggle of all the anonymous Marielles around the world who were murdered by the weapon of racial discrimination. We are all Marielle Franco.
