The Falklands and the Struggles for Sovereignty in Latin America

On Monday, September 16, I will be coordinating, together with National Deputy Daniel Filmus, the presentation of the book “The Falklands and the Struggles for Sovereignty in Latin America”, a work co-published by CLACSO and the publishing house of the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of the Nation.

The publication, which involved representatives from various political and academic spheres in Argentina, other countries in the region and the United Kingdom, brings together 15 dissertations from the “Malvinas Forum and the struggles for Sovereignty in Latin America”, held in November 2018.

It was an open space for dialogue and debate that made a real contribution to the struggles for sovereignty in Latin America and the Caribbean and to denouncing the residual and anachronistic cases of colonialism that, like the Falklands, still persist in our region and the world in the 21st century.

Compiled by Deputy Filmus, the authors of “Malvinas and the Struggles for Sovereignty in Latin America” are: Armando Abruzza, Ricardo Alfonsín, Ernesto Alonso, Jorge Arguello, Alicia Castro, Gerónimo de Sierra, Uriel Erlich, Bernard McGuirk, Cecilia Moreau, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Carla Pitiot, Agustín Rossi, Fernando “Pino” Solanas and Juan Gabriel Tokatian.

In the prologue, I emphasize that, “Without a doubt, diplomatic channels and firm political conviction will bring this just demand to fruition. Meanwhile, I echo the words of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, who says that we must not despair, we must continue building, we must remain strong and hopeful, because sooner or later peace will triumph over hatred, as justice will prevail.”
