Falkland Islands, Antarctica and the South Atlantic
In a joint effort between the Secretariat for the Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic, the Undersecretariat of University Policies of the Ministry of Education of the Argentine Republic, the National University of Tierra del Fuego (UNTDF) and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), we present the book Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic. Colonialism, sovereignty and development in the 21st century.
This book, which compiles the work of the winners of the eponymous essay competition, within the framework of the CLACSO scholarship program, addresses, from diverse historical, economic, environmental and political perspectives, the various problems surrounding a region that is not only key in terms of its geostrategic positioning and its wealth of resources, but also renews its historical importance and its sensitive place in the social imaginary as 2022 marks forty years since the war between Argentina and Great Britain over the territory of the Falkland Islands.
Latin American alliances, the persistence of colonialism or the emergence of neocolonialism, national development, resource use and environmental protection are just some of the aspects present in this work, which allows us to shed new light on a matter of vital importance and absolute relevance for the inhabitants of the countries of South America.
