This study describes the situation regarding access to water in the city of Medellín, Colombia, within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and focuses particularly on residential water and sanitation services. Throughout this study, the different institutional and community responses to ensure access to water during the pandemic are described. Furthermore, the study highlights the precariousness of access to these services for the most vulnerable communities.
This relates to the inadequate provision of other essential rights such as health, decent housing, and education. Finally, certain shortcomings in these measures are discussed, and the ways in which communities have organized themselves to access these public services during this health emergency are explained.
